Specially Commissioned Sculpture At Carroll’s Houlihan Access Dedicated To Local Volunteer

More than 100 people and Brett Eischeid’s dog, Katrina, were on hand Thursday for the dedication of a statue in memory of the local man who was instrumental in making the Carroll area a better place. Dr. Frank Greteman says the bicycle statue now on display at the Houlihan Access for the Sauk Rail Trail was specially commissioned.

Greteman says Eischeid had a hand in helping build the shelter house and bridges as well as helping with coordination of projects.

Brett was 49 when he passed away from cancer in September of 2019. This memorial statue at the Houlihan Access will greet those coming into Carroll and heading out of town on the 30-year-old asphalt trail. Greteman says the short-term goal is to have the segment from Swan Lake State Park to the landfill and beyond to Maple River repurposed. He adds the Sauk Rail Trail Association (SRTA) is also looking to do some other upgrades in the near future.

The association is a 501(c)(3) and Greteman says 100 percent of those tax-deductible donations goes directly to the trail. The trail is also supported through the sale of passes, and they now offer a lifetime membership option for married couples at $350. Greteman says the money is not only used for upkeep, but goes to help with issues that arise on the trail from time to time. Those interested in making a donation can mail those to the address included below.
