On Sept. 21 it was announced that Carroll City Manager, Mike Pogge-Weaver, was a candidate finalist for the same position with the City of Marion, a community of just over 41,000 near Cedar Rapids. He attended a public forum and interviews on Oct. 1 and Oct. 2, but there has since been no announcement out of Marion. Pogge-Weaver was unable to say anything until late Tuesday to city staff and then early this (Wednesday) morning, live on Carroll Broadcasting.
Pogge-Weaver says this week marks his fifth year as City Manager for Carroll, and he says now that the distraction of the application process is out of the way, they can better focus on tasks at hand.
Pogge-Weaver also addresses the question of whether or not there are other potential positions he is interested in applying for or has applied to.
As far as progressing in his career, he says he considers Carroll somewhat of a pinnacle opportunity.
Pogge-Weaver was contacted by a search firm about the position in Marion and asked to apply. Again, he stresses this was a difficult situation as he, his husband, Jonathon, and their daughter Jane are active in and love Carroll. He was flattered when the 13th largest community in the state contact the City Manager of the 40th largest, asking him to apply. He was humbled by local reaction as well.
Pogge-Weaver adds that he even had a county supervisor approach him prior to his announcement and express their gratitude and happiness that he will remain in the role. This full interview with Pogge-Weaver can be found below.
