NEW Cooperative is shifting feed production to other sites after a fire damaged the interior of their Lidderdale feed tower Thursday morning. The Lidderdale and Carroll Fire Departments were dispatched at approximately 9:53 a.m. for a fire at the site’s pellet mill, which is nearly 140-feet tall. According to Lidderdale Fire Chief, Terry Daniel, firefighters were forced to climb more than a dozen flights of stairs with full gear and hoses to extinguish the blaze. Damage to the structure was contained to the interior, and NEW Cooperative Communications Director, Gary Moritz, says they will transfer feed production to one of their five other facilities and thanked the local fire departments and law enforcement for their quick responses. The Carroll County Sherriff’s Office and Carroll County Emergency Medical Services also assisted at the scene.
