A Carroll woman arrested earlier this year for driving a stolen vehicle was sentenced Thursday in Carroll County District Court. According to trial information filed in March, 37-year-old Katie Marie Johnson was charged with second-degree theft, a class D felony, after she was seen driving a 2015 GMC Terrain in Carroll with a suspended license. Authorities say the vehicle matched the description of one reported stolen in November 2020. The SUV was also equipped with stolen plates when it was recovered by law enforcement. As part of a plea agreement reached with prosecutors earlier this year, Johnson pled guilty to the charge and was sentenced to five years in prison. However, the sentence was suspended, and she was instead placed on probation for three years to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services. More than $1,100 in associated fines and surcharges were also suspended. Johnson will also be required to pay restitution to the victim for the damage to the vehicle while it was in her possession. That amount is to be determined at a hearing scheduled for Nov. 18.
