Carroll Sheriff’s Office Is Dealing With Uptick In Falsified Weapon Permit Applications

There has not been a slowing in the number of weapon permit applications and renewals being done by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office in recent months. However, Sheriff, Ken Pingrey, says within the high number of applications being submitted, they are seeing an increase in the number of attempts to falsify information.

Pingrey says all attempts to provide inaccurate information on applications are forwarded to his office.

Excuses for the incorrect information run the gamut, but Pingrey says many are just tough to swallow.

Pingrey says that class D felony is punishable by up to five years in prison and federal agencies can be brought in as the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is notified as well. He adds the best course of action is that if you know you are prohibited, just don’t fill out an application.
