Carroll Man Ordered To Pay Over $400 In Fines For Throwing Garbage Into Neighbor’s Yard With Lawnmower

A Carroll man has been ordered to pay over $400 in fines in surcharges for resisting arrest and spreading garbage into his neighbor’s yard using his lawnmower. A default judgement against 35-year-old Matthew Lyle Hoffman was handed down Thursday after he failed to appear for a scheduled hearing. Hoffman was arrested on Oct. 8 by the Carroll Police Department in the 1200 block of N. Grant Road. Law enforcement was dispatched to the scene after receiving a report Hoffman was mowing over his garbage and throwing it onto the adjacent property. Authorities directed Hoffman to pick up the trash, but he refused. According to law enforcement, Hoffman actively resisted arrest and had to be carried to the patrol car. He was ordered to pay a combined $430 in fines and surcharges on charges of interference with official acts and littering.
