Betty Rettenmaier of Carroll formerly of Sioux City

Betty Jean Rettenmaier, age 72, of Carroll, IA, and formerly of Sioux City passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll with Fr. Timothy Schott as Celebrant.  Lector for the Mass will be her nephew Jeff Scharfenkamp.  Eucharistic minister will be her niece Lori Lloyd.  Gift bearers will be Clare Steffen and Lori Lloyd.   Casket bearers will be Cale Scharfenkamp, Eli Scharfenkamp, J.J. Lloyd, Cody Lloyd, Brad Steffen, and Tanner Scharfenkamp. Burial will be in St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Breda.

Visitation will be held at St. Lawrence Church from 9:30 A.M. – 10:45 A.M. on Saturday prior to the Mass.

Betty was born on April 3, 1949 in Carroll, IA, and she was the daughter of Marcus and Julia (Nees) Rettenmaier. She grew up in Breda and graduated from St. Bernard’s High School.  She attended business college in Sioux City and worked with Iowa Beef Producers, which later became Tyson, for 36 years.  She then worked at the Two Rivers Golf Course in Sioux City and became an avid golfer winning many tournaments.  Betty also enjoyed bowling and belonged to several bowling leagues.  Betty had many friends at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Sioux City where she volunteered many hours.  She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Sioux City. She was also a member of the Birthday Club of her high school in Breda.  Betty was a fun loving and very giving person.  She cherished her family and many good friends.  Betty moved back to Carroll in September of 2020 to live with her sister Karen Scharfenkamp and be close to her nieces and nephews.

Betty is survived by her sister Karen Scharfenkamp of rural Carroll; her nieces and nephews: Lori and Dirk Lloyd of Carroll, Jeff and Sue Scharfenkamp of Carroll, Teri Scharfenkamp of Carroll, Lisa Scharfenkamp and Randy Geneser of Waukee, and Jon Scharfenkamp of Lidderdale; several great nieces and nephews; and her very special friend Mary Sharp of Sioux City. Betty was preceded in death by her parents Marcus and Julia Rettenmaier; brother Gerald Rettenmaier; sister Linda Rettenmaier; brother-in-law John Scharfenkamp; and nephew Tom Scharfenkamp.
