City Of Carroll Moves Ahead With Design And Surveying For Extensive Adam Street Construction Project

The City of Carroll is moving ahead with the plans and design for a major construction project on a section of Adams Street. City Manager, Mike Pogge-Weaver, says last year the council approved major road updates be done on a routine basis.

Pogge-Weaver says these are not just simple patching projects or repair of the existing roadway. In fact, they have been seeing the base on Adams degrade to the point it is turning to powder in spots.

He says the construction work will be on Adams Street from U.S. Highway 30 north to 13th Street. The project design, coordination and oversight has been awarded to a local engineering firm.

Survey work has already begun and that, along with the design work is anticipated to be completed by Feb. 4, 2022. McClure Engineering will then coordinate the project that has bid letting set for Feb. 22 and construction planned for April through November of next year. Pogge-Weaver says because the project impacts Adams Elementary School, they have some parameters set for when construction in that area will take place.

Pogge-Weaver adds the city will be in contact with residents and businesses in that area as they coordinate the scope of work that will impede access from Adams for quite some time. Detailed cost estimates will come in once the design phase is completed, but initial estimates have this project coming in between $3 and $4 million.
