Donald Raymond Jorgensen was born on July 12, 1932, to Raymond and Grace (Schmidt) Jorgensen in Beatrice, Nebraska. They moved to a farm in the Lanesboro area where he lived the rest of his life. He graduated from Lanesboro High School. Don married Mary Bernholtz and to this union three children were born; Rick, Jeff and Julie. He served in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1957 where he toured the South Pacific aboard the USS Los Angeles. While in the Navy, Don met friends that he kept for a lifetime. On January 18, 1975, Don married Dorothy Schumacher Heuton and they enjoyed 46 years of marriage until her death in 2020. With this union, Don gained four more children; Danny, Debbie, Darlene and Doris.
Don loved being a farmer. He said he got to talk to God every day, especially when he was in the fields. He was also an electrician. Don and Dorothy wintered for many years in Texas. Don was a loving, caring, and kind person. He was rarely in a bad mood, unless the hogs got out. He enjoyed going to Esther’s every day for his Pepsi and peanuts, and for Don, the peanuts went in the Pepsi. He was a member of the Lanesboro United Methodist Church for over 60 years and was the family BINGO caller each year when they played during the holidays. Don loved his family, he especially loved dogs, and he will be missed by many.
Don is survived by his children Daniel (Mickey) Heuton of Gillette, WY, Rick Jorgensen of Ames, Deb (Alan) Ausborn of Lake City, Jeff (Cindy) Jorgensen of Ames, Doris (Scott) Fink of Truro, and Julie (Norman) Howlett of Beulah, CO; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and brother Denny (Crystal) Jorgensen of Lake City. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Dorothy; daughter Darlene Holm; and brother Warren.
