Greek gods and 80s culture collide this week with the premiere of the Carroll High School’s (CHS) fall play, Xanadu. Seniors, Elsie Dirkx and Caden Stageman, say they don’t want to give too much away before the premiere but share a brief outline of the musical’s plot.
They add if you enjoy bands like Electric Light Orchestra, Toto or any music that incorporates a synthesizer, Xanadu is the play for you. Stageman says this production is fast-paced with plenty of fun costume and scene changes, which will keep the audience engaged from beginning to end. The crew has been practicing at least three times per week since September with each session lasting about three hours. And with an 80s theme, Stageman says the whole show is a bit over the top.
Emersyn Walsh, who is part of the stage crew, encourages everybody to set aside time to enjoy the musical.
There are three showings of Xanadu, all in the Gene Vincent auditorium at the high school: Thursday, Nov 4 at 7 p.m.; Saturday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m.; and Sunday, Nov. 7 at 1 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults or $6 for students and can be purchased at the CHS main office or at the door on the day of the show.
