Voters in Carroll turned out in force Tuesday night, selecting new leaders for the city. Jerry Fleshner currently serves in an at-large position on the Carroll City Council and decided early in this election cycle he would not be seeking a third term.

Fleshner was defeated by Mark Beardmore with an unofficial total of 1,562 to 1,021. Even though he felt good going into Election Day, he says it was obvious there was a movement for change.

Over the course of Tuesday evening, Fleshner reached out to several of the newly elected council members and mayor. And even though he and Beardmore have philosophical differences, he says they all have Carroll’s best interests at heart.

Fleshner adds that even though he didn’t win the election, he was pleased to see the large number of people that supported him at the polls.

In addition to his two terms on the Carroll City Council, Fleshner has previously served as a member of the Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education. The outcome of this election, Fleshner says, does not necessarily close the door on public service in the future.

Fleshner thanks everyone for voting, including his own children; one of which cast an absentee ballot from Japan. He applauds everyone who showed up to the polls. Choice is what the political process is all about, he says, and he wishes even more people would explore the issues and cast that educated vote. Carroll Broadcasting will visit with Fleshner again later this year as his final term draws to a close.
