Carroll’s New Parks And Rec Director Is Getting Moved In And Acclimated To The Community

Carroll’s new Parks and Recreation Director, Chad Tiemeyer, hit the ground running in his new position on Monday, coming from the same position in his hometown of Shenandoah. City Manager, Mike Pogge-Weaver says there were a few things that set Tiemeyer apart from the other two final candidates.

Tiemeyer jokes that most of his previous experience with Carroll was being annihilated on our baseball and football fields. He played baseball at Central College prior to picking up the whistle, assisting with the JV and varsity. He met his wife, Lisa, while in college and after graduation, he worked in the fitness field in the Des Moines area before returning to Shenandoah. Tiemeyer says leaving his lifelong home for this opportunity was not as difficult as one might think.

Tiemeyer says they were happy in Shenandoah and there were only a handful of opportunities that would align with his plans for career and personal growth.

One of the very attractive components that helped sway the decision for the pair, Tiemeyer says, is that city staff appears to work together as a very tightly knit unit. When it comes to issues in the department, he doesn’t see the work needed at the Carroll Rec Center as a challenge, rather more as a necessity.

Tiemeyer says he is never completely satisfied with anything. Carroll has awesome parks and trails, but there is room for improvement on everything and he looks forward to working with the staff on developing those types of features for the future. Pogge-Weaver adds there are many different projects that Tiemeyer will be jumping into. This includes improvements at Merchants Park and on the Sauk Rail Trail in partnership with Carroll County Conservation. Tiemeyer will be formally introduced to the Carroll City Council at their next meeting on Monday, Nov. 8.
