In a unanimous vote of the MINK (Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas) collegiate baseball League, the Carroll Merchants will be their newest team on the 2022 schedule. The Merchants will be competing in the North Division of the league with the Clarinda A’s, Chillicothe Mudcats, Des Moines Peak Prospects and St. Joseph Mustangs. “We are excited to welcome the Merchants baseball club to the MINK League,” says Commissioner, Ron Rodriguez. “We have a consistent level of great interest from teams across the region in joining our league. The history, the community support, great facility and the leadership group at Carroll will be a great fit with the other franchises we have.” Rodriguez points to the success of the league and its team members, having been the starting point for pro players such as Ozzie Smith who played with the Clarinda A’s before his Hall of Fame career with the St. Louis Cardinals and Luke Voit, a member of the Sedalia Bombers before becoming a home run leader with the New York Yankees.
