Last week, Carroll Broadcasting reported the Carroll County Attorney’s Office was advising residents to confirm the identify of people claiming to be from the Assessor’s Office. Now, formal charges have been filed in Carroll County District Court against an Arcadia woman whose actions led to that warning. Court records show 30-year-old Cassandra Lynne Vonnahme faces a single count of second-degree burglary, a class C felony. She was arrested on Nov. 2 by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office following an investigation into the Saturday, Oct. 30 incident. Authorities say Vonnahme entered the home about five miles west of Breda under false pretenses by presenting herself as an inspector with the Assessor’s Office. She allegedly stole prescription pain medications from the victim while inside the residence. She had initially been charged with impersonating a public official, an aggravated misdemeanor, but that count was dismissed in lieu of the burglary charge. Her arraignment hearing is slated for Monday, Nov. 15. A class C felony in Iowa carries a maximum penalty of up to 10 years in prison and $10,000 in fines.
