Betty Cheney, age 92 of Sac City, IA, passed away on Monday, November 8, 2021, at Loring Hospital in Sac City. Betty Lorraine was born on May 22, 1929, to parents Herbert and Ida (Schade) Weitzel in Sac County, IA. She attended Jackson 12 country school and graduated from Sac City High School with the class of 1947.
In 1949, Betty was united in marriage to Glen Dierenfeld and together they had four children. They later divorced. Betty worked in the food service industry, working at Indian Village, the Carlson House, and Rusty’s Deli. She also loved making salads for family events. On April 6, 1989, Betty was united in marriage to Wallace Cheney. She and Wallace loved to travel, and spent 25 plus winters in Hawaii. They also liked to travel to Branson, MO, and take fishing trips to Minnesota with her brother. After Wallace’s passing, Betty became interested in computer games, ferbies, and her talking dog buster to keep her company. She also collected Precious Moments. Betty will be dearly missed by those that knew and loved her. Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Patty Mangum of Carroll, IA, Martin Dierenfeld of Sac City, IA, and Bruce Dierenfeld of Clayton, GA; two grandchildren; brothers: Merlin (Sophia) Weitzel of Eden Prairie, MN, and Raymond (Beth) Weitzel of Ames, IA; and many friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her son Craig and husband Wallace Cheney. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Loring Healthcare Foundation 211 Highland Ave, Sac City, IA 50583.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 15, 2021, at the Unity Church South Campus in Sac City, IA, with Reverend Missy Brown officiating. Burial will take place at Oakland Cemetery under the direction of Farber & Otteman Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Monday.
