The open enrollment period for Medicare Advantage and Medicare Part D prescription drug plans closes on Dec. 7, and Manning Regional Healthcare Center (MRHC) wants to provide the information area seniors need to make these decisions. On Friday, Nov. 12, they will be hosing a special Medicare Part D enrollment event to give residents the opportunity to compare what is offered for 2022 and to give them the chance to ask questions about these options. “The coverage and cost of Medicare plans tend to change each year,” says MRHC Chief Financial Officer, Amy McLaughlin, CPA. “Meeting with MRHC staff and volunteers can help people understand the Medicare options better and potentially save them money as a result.” Staff will be available to provide the unbiased and confidential assistance by appointment. These can be made by calling 712-655-2072. Participants should plan for 45 minutes of time and bring a listing of all recent medications along with their current or old Medicare cards. Everyone is also asked to consider what matters most and evaluate whether their current plan is the best one for meeting those needs, to check to see that whatever plan they choose includes coverage for their provider, pharmacy and prescriptions and to compare what is being offered, even if they are satisfied with their current plan. Those who miss the Dec. 7 enrollment deadline generally must wait a full year before making changes to their plan.
