Storm Lake Students Charged For Use Of Marijuana Vaping Pens In Second Incident This Week

For the second time this week, students at the Storm Lake Community School District have been charged in connection to the use of marijuana vaping pens on school grounds. The Storm Lake Police Department reports officers were dispatched to the Storm Lake Middle School at 2:20 p.m. on Tuesday. Upon arrival, officers determined two students, a 13-year-old female and a 14-year-old female, were caught using the devices by school staff. The teens were transported to the Storm Lake Police Department for further investigation. The 14-year-old female was issued a juvenile referral for a controlled substance violation, a class D felony, and possession of marijuana, a serious misdemeanor. The 13-year-old was charged with only possession of marijuana. Both teens were released to family members pending a juvenile court appearance. A 16-year-old Storm Lake High School student was charged with a controlled substance violation on Monday after a student experienced a medical issue using a marijuana vape pen.
