The Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education is scheduled for two meetings next week: their regularly scheduled monthly one and the annual organizational meeting. The monthly meeting comes first and begins with a closed session under Iowa Code 21.5(i), “To evaluate the professional competency of an individual whose appointment, hiring, performance, or discharge is being considered when necessary to prevent needless and irreparable injury to that individual’s reputation and that individual requests a closed session.” Upon returning to open session, the board will consider an agreement and approval of resignation. According to Berlau, this is not a question of employee termination, but he cannot comment further due to it being a personnel issue. Berlau says they also have a few items of businesses to wrap up from the October meeting.

They will then review the results of the Nov. 2 elections, which were certified earlier this week. Incumbent, Duane Horsley, won reelection and newcomer, Kristen Lundstrom, won the seat currently held by Jen Munson. The board is scheduled to open the second meeting of the evening at 6:25 p.m., beginning with the oath of office for the newly elected board members. Berlau says they then need to establish officers, meeting schedules and more for the coming year.

Berlau adds the remainder of the meeting is filled with regular agenda items, including administrative updates, board policy revisions and business office reports. In an effort to address the issue of bus driver shortages for the district, the board plans to discuss the possibility of offering incentives to attract and retain drivers.
