One Killed, Two Injured In Friday Morning Crash Near Storm Lake

The Iowa State Patrol reports one person was killed and two others injured in a two-vehicle collision this (Friday) morning near Storm Lake. Authorities say the crash occurred at approximately 8:59 a.m. on U.S. Highway 71 near the intersection with 510th Street. The initial investigation revealed a 2005 Ford F150, driven by 33-year-old Juan Alday Peña of Storm Lake, was traveling northbound when he lost control of the truck and crossed into the path of a southbound 2010 GMC Acadia, driven by 46-year-old Terry Stevens of Spencer. Peña was pronounced dead at the scene following the head-on collision. Stevens and a passenger in the Peña vehicle, 41-year-old Ninfa Cabral Bautista of Storm Lake, were transported to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center by Buena Vista County Emergency Medical Services for treatment of their injuries. Authorities say weather and road conditions likely played a factor in the deadly crash. The Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Iowa State Patrol at the scene.
