In his first full week as the new Carroll Parks and Recreation Director, Chad Tiemeyer was joined by former Parks and Rec Director, Jack Wardell, in presenting two projects to the city council. This past Monday night, Tiemeyer and Wardell opened discussion on a proposal to study needed improvements at the Carroll Amphitheater Band Shell.

Tiemeyer said this had been brought to the council after a vote by the Parks and Recreation Cultural Advisory Board at their Nov. 1 board meeting. Mayor, Eric Jensen, commented that he was surprised to learn about the extent of the issues.

Councilman, Mike Kots, asked about work done at the band shell about three or four years ago. Wardell explained what was done at that time.

The band shell was constructed in 1949 and several council members asked about the possibility of any historical grant funding that may be available to help defray costs. Those options would have to be explored at a future date, but in the interim, the council unanimously approved a professional services agreement with Shive Hattery in an amount not to exceed $4,750. The second item for the Parks and Rec Department involved the donation of three scoreboards to the Youth Sports Complex by Seaboard Foods. Tiemeyer says they received several bids.

Wardell says there will be some rewiring that needs to be done, even though these are wireless boards. Another thing that will need to be investigated before installation is the integrity of the posts. He says these have been up and in use for about 17 years and have been drilled into three times for replacement boards. The council unanimously approved the lowest bid of $10,350.89 from international supplier, NEVCO Sports.
