Guthrie County Deputies Respond To Multi-Vehicle Incidents On I-80 Friday

The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office responded to several incidents, reported as a multi-vehicle accident Friday. The accident report came in at approximately 4:45 p.m. and deputies were dispatched to the scene near the Adair exit on Interstate 80. Upon arrival, they found 40-year-old Erin E. Hoffmeyer of Lincoln, Neb. had lost control on an icy bridge while slowing for another accident in front of her on the interstate. The 2019 Jeep Cherokee she was driving entered the center median where she connected with the cable barrier. Hoffmeyer was uninjured but there was an estimated $5,000 in damage to the Jeep. Authorities say this incident created a chain reaction and Erin Shild from Lincoln, Neb. who was eastbound in the left lane, struck a cable barrier with the 2014 Nissan Rogue she was driving. She veered back into traffic and was struck on the passenger side by a 2021 Lexus RS, driven by 61-year-old Richard Earl Adam of Blair, Neb. The Shild vehicle left the roadway, striking the south cable barrier and coming to rest in the south ditch. The Adam vehicle also left the highway and went through the cable barrier on the north side, coming to rest in the median. Adam was uninjured. Shild was transported for treatment of suspected minor injuries. There was an estimated $15,000 in damage to the Nissan and $10,000 to the Lexus. When law enforcement arrived on scene, they found another vehicle, a 2015 Ram 1500, driven by 59-year-old Patricia Sue Wagaman of Red Oak, stranded in the cable barrier off the left lane of eastbound I-80. The driver was uninjured and stated she had not struck any other vehicles, but that she had simply lost control due to weather conditions and other vehicles around her going into the ditch and hitting each other. There was an estimated $8,000 in damage to the Ram.
