Young library patrons can stop by the Carroll Public Library this weekend to get some hands-on experience with some domestic and zoo creatures. Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) Carroll campus is partnering with the library to celebrate Earth Day a week early on Saturday, April 15. Beginning at 9:30 a.m., Mark Skillen and his dog, Ivan, will be on hand with library mascot, Dr. Whoot, to talk about reading and conservation. At 10 a.m., the Blank Park Zoo in Des Moines is bringing critters for the children to see and learn about. Youth Librarian, Diane Tracy, says they are unsure exactly what animals will be there.
While they may not know which animals will come through the door, Tracy says they are safe for kids to be around but still fun.
The program ends at 11 a.m. Saturday morning at the Carroll Public Library and has no cost to attend. Photo opportunities will be available for parents and kids throughout the event.
