Wall Lake City Officials’ Vision For Former ESC School Building Takes Shape

Wall Lake city officials’ vision for what will become of the former East Sac County (ESC) Elementary School is beginning to take shape. During last week’s meeting, the city council hosted representatives from the community’s newly formed Recreation Committee, which consists of six residents and one councilman. According to Clerk, Chris Rodman, this committee is tasked with running the downtown structure, and the discussion focused on what their actual responsibilities would be.

There had also been some discussion on having apartments in the building, but Rodman says they are shifting away from the idea due to concerns from the committee about managing residential tenants. Over the weekend, community members gathered to clean out the nearly 100-year-old structure, and staff thanks the many people who showed up and lent a hand.

He adds the timing of the limited opening is great as people begin to head indoors with temperatures cooling off significantly into the holiday season. Rodman says this is an exciting time, as many residents have put a lot of effort into converting the school building into something useful for the community.

While officials have already determined what will become of some spaces, Rodman notes they are still taking suggestions on other areas. A survey is open until midnight on Monday, Nov. 29 that gives residents the opportunity to provide input on what comes next. A link to that questionnaire is included below.
