Margaret Reiter, 95, died Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at Twilight Acres in Wall Lake. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wall Lake. Celebrant will be Father Joe Dillinger and burial in the Wall Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Lampe & Powers Funeral Home in Lake City is assisting the family.
Margaret’s birthday was debatable but was reported to be on September 16, 1926, in Dedham, Iowa, to John and Mary (Wenzel) Silberbauer. She helped raise her two siblings after the early death of their father. Margaret caught the eye of a young gentleman, Harvey Reiter while at the Lakewood Ballroom and the couple was married on May 3, 1951. Over the years, she worked as a cook at the Wall Lake School, at the noodle factory and popcorn plant, and she worked and volunteered at Twilight Acres in Wall Lake. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wall Lake and enjoyed gardening, canning, bowling, playing Pinochle with her card club, and baking, where she was most recognized for her bread baking and orange salad making. She most enjoyed spending time with her favorite son, her grandchildren, and all her grand-dogs. Margaret always told her family she lived a good life.
Margaret is survived by her sons Paige (Mary) Reiter of Lake City, Jesse (Sheri) Reiter of Urbandale, and Kevin Reiter (Nitaya Blades) of Lake City; grandchildren Matt (Becca) Reiter of West Des Moines, Jennifer (Scott) Froehlich of Waukee, Michelle Reiter (Kyle Hanks) of Atlanta, GA, Aaron (Stacie) Reiter of Portland, OR and Anne Reiter of Lake City; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Ben, and Katelyn Froehlich and Zoie Reiter; and brother John “Skip” (Gail) Silberbauer of Elgin, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents John and Mary Silberbauer; husband Harvey Reiter; and sister Marie Miller.
