State Treasurer, Michael Fitzgerald, is celebrating the holiday season by giving away 99 College Savings Iowa contributions at the end of the year. One winner from each of Iowa’s 99 counties will receive a $529 contribution to their College Savings Iowa 529 account. To register, simply log on to Iowa529Contest.com, fill out a short information sheet and create an account for your child or loved one. College Savings Iowa is a tax-advantaged plan that helps families save for the costs associated with post-secondary education. Accounts can be used to pay for most expenses, including room and board, textbooks, tuition and other supplies. Additionally, contributors can deduct up to $3,474 from their adjusted gross income per account for the 2021 tax year. Fitzgerald says, “ As we approach the season of giving, we want to share the joy of saving with College Savings Iowa. You can continue to spread holiday cheer by making a contribution to an existing College Savings Iowa account or opening your first account. It only takes 10 minutes and as little as $25.” Entry forms are due prior to midnight on Dec. 31. More information and details on how to register can be found included below.
