Carroll looked like they were going to win their season opener going away on Tuesday but Kuemper stormed back in the 3rd and 4th quarters and had a chance with a few minutes left to tie the game. Carroll led 49-25, only to see that lead cut to 57-54 with a few minutes left in the game. Kaleb Booth took over for Carroll and the Tigers held off Kuemper to improve to 1-0 on the season while the Knights gained confidence in some of their younger players but fell to 0-1.

The Tigers went up early behind the hot shooting of Nick Macke who scored 18 points in the 1st half.  Carroll led 7-2 before Kuemper defense came up with a few steals, leading to a 7-0 run and a 9-7 Knights lead. Isaac Evans hit the bucket that put Kuemper ahead by 2. The lead was short lived as Nick Macke put Carroll back up 11-9. Kuemper would lead again at 12-11 but that would be their last lead. The 1st quarter saw four ties, the last one at 14 and four lead changes with Carroll taking the lead for good at 14-12. The Tigers closed out the 1st quarter on a 8-0 run and lead 22-14. The lead slowly grew in the 2nd quarter. Carroll took better care of the basketball, not allowing Kuemper to get out on the break after a turnover. Kuemper struggled to hit shots in the 2nd quarter, missing shots in the lane as Carroll held them to 6 points, building a 38-20 lead at half. A quick Carroll basket to start the 3rd was answered by a Kuemper 3. The Tigers responded, scoring 9 of the next 11 points. With the lead at 49-25 Carroll may lost a little focus. Kuemper turned up the heat with Dawson Gifford picking up a few steals for layups. Gifford and Michael Kasperbauer also heated up from the three point line and Kuemper went on a 29-8 run, trailing 57-54. After a quick timeout, Kaleb Booth hit back-to-back threes and found Evan Hammer for a layup and Carroll extended the lead to 66-54, sealing the win. Carroll did a nice job getting to the free throw line, hitting 15-21, Kuemper finished 4-8 and didn’t take a free throw in the 2nd half. Nick Macke led Carroll with 24 points and 9 rebounds. Kaleb Booth added 17 points and 12 assists. Evan Hammer pulled down 7 rebounds and Caden Kock hit a pair of 3’s, adding 10 points for Carroll. Dawson Gifford finished with a team high 18 points with 4 steals. Michael Kasperbauer added 10 points and Isaac Evans had 10 points and 7 rebounds for the Knights.
