One Driver Injured In Head-On Collision Near Grand Junction Wednesday

One person was transported for treatment following a head-on collision Wednesday near Grand Junction. The Greene County Sheriff’s Office, Grand Junction and Jefferson Fire Departments and Greene County Emergency Medical Services all responded to the scene on U.S. Highway 30 near 16th Street at 6:03 p.m. Seventy-one-year-old Jerry Petersen of Boxholm was eastbound on Highway 30 in a 2013 Ford Edge and was passing a semi-tractor trailer. He collided head-on with a westbound 2014 Jeep Wrangler driven by a licensed juvenile. The impact caused the Jeep to enter the north ditch. Petersen was transported to the Greene County Medical Center for treatment of injuries. The juvenile driver and three passengers in the Jeep were uninjured. Both vehicles were totaled in the accident and Petersen was cited for unsafe passing.
