Kuemper came out strong, passing the ball well, finding teammates open for easy baskets. They led at the end of the 1st quarter, were tied at half and trailed by 2 going to the 4th quarter. They wore down and struggled making shots and turned the ball over in falling by 12 points. The game would have been closer but Kiana Schulz got hot against the Knights zone defense, draining four-three’s in the 4th quarter and finishing with 19 points. The loss drops the Knights to 0-3.

Kuemper was sharp on offense in the first few minutes as Lauren Boell gave them a 2-1 lead and Catherine Mayhall found Frannie Glynn for a bucket to give the Knights a 4-3 lead. Mayhall finished with 4 assists and almost all of those came in the 1st quarter. She found Audrey Hueton for a layup and Kuemper led 10-9 after the 1st quarter. The Monarchs were able to pound the ball inside and lived at the free throw line, going 16-29. That would play a major factor in the 4th quarter as Kira Langenfeld helped salt the game away at the line. They put Kuemper in foul trouble early in the game as Kaci Peter, Audrey Hueton and Lauren Boell all battled foul trouble at halftime.

Catherine Mayhall started the 2nd quarter how she ended the 1st with an assist, this time to Lauren Boell and Kuemper led 12-9. Kiana Schulz answered with a three but Karsyn Overmohle answered with her own thee and Kuemper led 15-12. Whitlee Auen put Denison Schleswig on top midway through the 2nd quarter with a three from the top of the key. The Monarchs led 17-16, extending it to 21-16. Kuemper rallied and tied the game at 22 at the first half buzzer when Audrey Hueton found Catherine Mayhall for a layup.

Lauren Boell found Frannie Glynn underneath to start the 2nd half and Kuemper led 24-22. That would be there last lead. The Monarchs tied the game at 24 and went up 26-24. Kora Thomsen found Catherine Mayhall for a three to tie the game at 30 and Mayhall hit back-to-back threes to tie the game again at 33. Denison Schleswig scored and took a 35-33 lead into the 4th quarter.

The Knights tied the score at 35 to start the 4th but the Monarchs hit a free throw and a bucket to go up 3. Kiana Schulz then took over  hitting back-to-back threes, extending the Denison Schleswig lead to 44-35. Kuemper closed to within 45-39 but Schulz hit two more threes, putting the game out of reach at 52-39. Kuemper was outscored 18-8 in the 4th quarter.

The Knights showed good signs during stretches of the game but will need to find more consistency.

Frannie Glynn paced the Knights with 15 points and 8 rebounds, Catherine Mayhall added 10 points and 8 rebounds to go with 4 assists and 4 steals. Kaci Peter battled foul trouble and pulled down 5 rebounds. Lauren Boell added 8 points.

The Knights will host Harlan on Tuesday.

Panorama put the game away in the 1st quarter on Saturday afternoon with an onslaught, leading 34-2, dropping IKM-Manning to 1-2 on the season. The Wolves offense picked up in the 2nd quarter, scoring 12 points, matching the points by Panorama. The offensive struggles started again in the 2nd half as Panorama outscored them 24-10. IKM-Manning shot just 26.7% from on two-point shots but did hit 3-7 from beyond the arc. Morgan Hanson was 2-2 from deep and Macie Doyel went 1-2.

Bianca Cadwell had a team high 9 points to go with 5 rebounds. Morgan Hanson added 6 points and had a team high 6 rebounds. Taylor Ferneding added 4 rebounds.

The Wolves travel to AHSTW on Tuesday for a Western Iowa Conference matchup.
