Iowa residents will likely notice a special message on the state’s highways in the coming weeks. The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) has partnered with the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division (ABD) to present a shared message on the importance of flu and COVID-19 vaccinations that are circulating the state on six semi-tractor trailers. They are proud of the collaboration that urges Iowans to get vaccinated, saying this is the way to “prevent avoidable hospitalizations and help preserve health care resources for other needs, including illnesses, injuries and emergencies.” The IDPH says annual flu vaccines are recommended for all individuals over the age of six months and that the recent expansion of COVID-19 vaccines makes them available to children five to 11 and booster doses are now being offered to all Iowans over the age of 18. They urge anyone with questions to contact their healthcare provider.
