2021 Was Another Successful Year For Water Quality Initiatives At Black Hawk Lake

The Black Hawk Lake Protective Association (BHLPA) is pleased to report 2021 was another successful year for water quality improvement initiatives. Representatives from the association presented their year-end summary to the Lake View City Council during their meeting earlier this week. Administrator, Scott Peterson, says they have seen tremendous growth over the last 12 months.

About 15 years ago, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR), and city and county leaders identified water quality in Black Hawk Lake as a top priority and have been actively working to address the issues that led to its decline in the past, including rough fish management, aquatic vegetation removal, erosion among other factors. Peterson says their efforts have made a very noticeable difference.

With the 2021 projects wrapping up, Peterson says they are looking ahead to 2022.

It can take years for the benefits of water quality improvement to begin showing, but Peterson says they have a dedicated group of people from the DNR, BHLPA, Lake View City Council and beyond working continuously on the issue.
