Jefferson PD Called To Accidents On Icy Roads Thursday Morning

Officers with the Jefferson Police Department assisted at two accidents within the community that resulted from icy road conditions on Thursday morning. No injuries were reported in either. The first accident call came in at approximately 6:36 a.m. on the overpass in the 700 block of North Elm Street. Lewis Pierson, III of Jefferson was southbound when he lost control on the ice and struck the side rail. There was an estimated $1,500 in damage to the 2004 Jeep Liberty he was driving. The second incident occurred at approximately 8:25 a.m. at West Reed and Elm Streets. Shannon Faller of Jefferson was westbound on West Reed Street in a 2000 Chevrolet Suburban. Because of ice on the roadway, Faller could not stop at the posted sign at Elm Street and slid through the intersection, striking a 2008 Ford F-250, driven by Mark McDermott of Panora. The Faller vehicle sustained an estimated $5,000 in damages and the McDermott vehicle an estimated $10,000 in damages. Faller was cited for failure to obey a stop sign.
