Kuemper 44
Atlantic 38
Kuemper earned their second straight win, both coming on the road. The Knights trailed after the 1st quarter but held Atlantic to 2 points in the 2nd quarter. The defensive pressure helped Kuemper get good looks and easy looks on the offensive end, scoring 19 points in the 3rd quarter. Mixing up looks defensively in the 2nd half helped keep Atlantic off balance on offense. Kora Thomsen stepped up big with a pair of free throws with under a minute left to seal the win.

Riverside at Audubon
Audubon 42
Riverside 25
Audubon had some not so great quarters against Riverside, but they were able to keep their large lead built up in the second and third quarters to get past the Bulldogs Tuesday night.
Both Audubon and Riverside saw some scoring difficulties in the first quarter as Riverside came out in a man-to-man defensive look that took Audubon some time to figure out. The Wheelers, behind Sienna Albertsen who scored five points in that quarter, took a 7-4 lead into the second quarter. Audubon still had some difficulties against the Riverside defense, but they were able to drive in a few buckets in the paint and got Albertsen cooking with another made three pointer. The Wheelers outscored the Bulldogs 15-6 in the second quarter and took a 22-10 lead into halftime. Albertsen led the Wheelers with eight points in the first half, followed by Jaci Christensen and Aleah Hermansen with seven points each.
Riverside switched from a man-to-man defense into a zone look, which made the Wheelers rethink their offensive strategy. Riverside caused plenty of turnovers and fouls with their new defensive look, but were unable to score themselves. Albertsen drained two more threes in the third quarter and Hermansen got her first as well, leading the Wheelers to a 34-14 lead going into the fourth quarter. Riverside was able to finally outscore the Wheelers in the final eight minutes of play, but it wasn’t enough to take the lead at any time. Kate Tessman for Audubon drained a three pointer, the sixth on the night for the Wheelers, as Hermansen went three for four in free throws to allow Audubon to keep their lead and walk away with a 42-25 victory.
Along with this win, Aleah Hermansen got the points she needed to become Audubon’s new all time scoring leader for girls basketball. The Wheelers improve to 3-1 overall on the season and 2-1 in the Western Iowa Conference. The Wheelers have a small two day break and are back in action on Thursday, December 16th on the road at Boyer Valley.
