During the 2021 Iowa legislative session the Butchery Innovation and Revitalization Program was established and passed. This initiative is aimed at expanding meat processing capacity for small-scale processors. “This program is key to unlocking greater potential for those facilities by providing the resources needed to expand their processing capacity and help alleviate disruptions in the supply chain,” Gov. Kim Reynolds said earlier this year. “This investment will also serve as a catalyst for jobs, rural revitalization and innovation.” It will also offer the opportunity for Iowa residents to become stakeholders in new ventures in the western region of Iowa. Kristin Tentinger, Community Liaison and Operations Manager with Cattlemen’s Heritage Beef Company, explains a proposal by project developers, TenCorp, Inc. for a $325 million beef processing facility.
The new processing facility will employ as many as 750 with annual average wages of $55,000 plus benefits. Founder and developer, Chad Tentinger, has also told media outlets they anticipate Cattlemen’s Heritage will produce an estimated $1.1 billion in economic impact. Construction is underway with anticipated completion in the fall of 2023. Tentinger says a meeting that will offer more information to prospective investors is scheduled for later today (Thursday) in Carroll.
Another meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 28 at the activity center in Harlan. More information and contact details are available on the TenCorp website at https://www.tencorpinc.com/.
