The Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education will begin utilizing a two meeting per month schedule starting in January as part of an ongoing process to have school officials make better informed decisions more efficiently. Currently, the board is scheduled to convene on the third Monday of each month, but at last night’s (Monday) meeting, the board approved a plan to also host a work session each month. Superintendent, Dr. Casey Berlau, explains.
According to Berlau, these work sessions would generally fall on the first Monday of each month with the board likely taking action on what was discussed during the regular meeting on the third Monday. He says the hope is the additional meeting will actually cut down on overall meeting time.
Under this new schedule, the board will next convene for a work session on Monday, Jan. 3 at 5:30 p.m. to discuss learning pathways, academic requirements and other similar topics. The board would then take action, if necessary, on those topics during their regular Jan. 17 meeting. Berlau says they will do their best to avoid holding votes during work sessions, but they may occasionally come up as required.
The addition of a monthly work session comes as the result of professional board development held earlier this month with Teamworks International, which is an education consulting firm based out of Centerville, Minn. The board also discussed new guidance from attorneys and the Iowa Board of Education on employee vaccine requirements, tentative plans for logo removal on the videoboard at the Carroll Athletic Stadium and a new webhosting agreement for the district’s website. Carroll Broadcasting will bring you more on these topics in upcoming newscasts.
