Iowa Again Earns Top-Tier Credit Rating From Financial Analysis Firms

State Treasurer, Michael Fitzgerald, says Iowa has maintained its top-tier credit score thanks to state leaders’ sound fiscal management. According to Fitch Ratings, a global capital research and analysis firm, Iowa’s AAA score has been affirmed, which it has held since 2008. Fitzgerald says, “This rating would equate to an individual with a credit score over 800. Iowa is well-positioned to absorb any fiscal volatility resulting from either the coronavirus pandemic or sudden shifts in commodity prices.” Fitch’s rating was also confirmed by Moody’s Investor Services, another oft-cited fiscal analysis firm. “News like this is something we can hold on to as we look forward to what’s next for the state,” says Fitzgerald. Iowa is only one of 10 states to have earned a AAA rating every year since 2010.
