The City of Lake City and the Lake City Betterment Association are inviting residents to join them in the first week of the new year for a public forum with the new leader of the community’s police department. Previously, Dan Schaffer was chief at the Denison Police Department before being hired for the same role in the Lake City Police Department. Schaffer has served as a law enforcement officer for nearly four decades, and city officials are optimistic he will be able to correct staffing shortages and issues that have lingered at the agency for more than a year. Beginning at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 4, Schaffer will be available at the Lake City Community Memorial Building for a meet and greet with residents and to answer any questions from the public as he settles into his new role.
