CCSD Board Of Education Will Likely Consider First Reading Of OSHA Vaccine Requirement Policy At Jan. 3 Work Session

Like many other companies and organizations, the Carroll Community School District (CCSD) will need to move quickly in order to comply with a new Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rule requiring larger employers to require COVID vaccination or have staff tested weekly. Employers will face substantial fines for noncompliance beginning Jan. 10, with exclusions for regular testing due to supply shortages. Superintendent, Dr. Casey Berlau, says they have received updated guidance from the Iowa Association of School Boards (IASB).

The board will not need to develop their own language regarding how the requirement will be monitored or enforced, but Berlau says he wanted feedback from the school’s attorney, Brett Nitzschke, before bringing it up for a first reading.

The first reading of the proposed OSHA vaccine requirement policy will likely occur during the board’s work session next month, which is tentatively scheduled for Monday, Jan. 3. More information will be available after a formal agenda has been released.
