The Carroll County Chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is gearing up for the 2022 programming, and registration is now open for two of their upcoming support classes. According to Terry Plocher, who sits on the NAMI board of directors, the next Family-to-Family and Peer-to-Peer classes are starting the second week of January. He says the organization’s volunteer base and participation rate has increased notably since its formation several years ago.
Registration for both the Peer-to-Peer and Family-to-Family classes is open through Tuesday, Jan. 4 with about half the spaces still available. Plocher explains the purpose for each of the courses.
Peer-to-Peer is more focused on individuals who cope with depression, anxiety or other conditions on a day-to-day basis. Plocher says it can be intimidating to sign up for sessions that may be filled with people you may not know, but participants do not leave as strangers.
The Family-to-Family class’s first meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 10 at First United Methodist Church in Carroll. Peer-to-Peer begins the following day, also at 6:30 p.m., at the Serendipity Acting Studio in the Depot Business Center. Again, registration can be completed until Tuesday, Jan. 4 by calling 712-792-1122 or by email at namicarrollco@gmail.com
