A Storm Lake man was seriously injured following a Sunday evening fight. The Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to the 300 block of W. 9th Street at approximately 8:40 p.m. in response to a young child’s 911 call reporting the incident. Upon arrival, officers located a man in the front yard, identified as 37-year-old Jairo Jose Gutierrez Cortes of Storm Lake. A second man, 27-year-old Diego Rodriguez, also of Storm Lake, was found inside a nearby residence. According to authorities, Guitierrez Cortes and Rodriguez had engaged in a fight with each other resulting in injuries requiring medical attention to Rodriguez’s face and wrist. Both men were taken into custody. Rodriguez was transported to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center for treatment before being released into police custody. He is charged with disorderly conduct, a simple misdemeanor, and held on a $300 bond. Gutierrez Cortes was transported to the Buena Vista County jail and charged with assault causing serious injury, a class D felony, and disorderly conduct. He was held on a $5,300 bond.
