Vehicle Totaled When It Ignited Following Crash Near Coon Rapids

Authorities have released additional details of a single-vehicle accident that occurred earlier this week northeast of Coon Rapids. A Carroll County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to the intersection of 320th Street and Willow Avenue at approximately 5:05 p.m. on Monday. Their initial investigation found 21-year-old Troy Howard Smouse of Coon Rapids was traveling south on Willow in a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix and was attempting to make a left turn onto 320th. Smouse told law enforcement his vehicle shut down and was no longer able to control it. The Pontiac entered the south ditch, caught on fire and was completely engulfed. Following the crash, Smouse was cited for failure to provide proof of financial liability and failure to maintain control.
