A fast start for the Crusaders couldn’t make up for a cold stretch in the 2nd and 3rd quarters in a home loss for Coon Rapids Bayard. Brynn Bass scored 4 points and had an assist to Shelbi Wiskus as Coon Rapids Bayard built an early 11-2 lead. The Crusaders were dominating on the glass early with Jessica Evans and Breeley Clayburg. That changed when Clayburg had to go to the bench with her third foul and the Charges began their rally. They trailed 13-7 after the 1st quarter, before 8-0 run put them ahead 22-21 late in the 2nd quarter. The Crusaders tied the game at 22 on a free throw by Lydia Hofbauer at halftime. Breeley Clayburg tied the game early in the 3rd quarter on a offensive rebound and put-back but that the last time tie. The Chargers went on a 6-0 run and led 30-24. Coon Rapids Bayard pulled back within three on a Brynn Bass 3 but another 6-0 run by the Charges extended the lead to 9. Megan Gray hit Breeley Clayburg for a basket to pull the Crusaders within 39-33. Coon Rapids Bayard scored more points in the 1st quarter than they did the entire 2nd half.  The loss drops them to 3-4 on the season.

Brynn Bass played hard all night finishing with a team high 21 points. Jessica Evans led the rebounding attack with 9 rebounds, Breeley Clayburg battled foul trouble all game, finishing with 7 points and 6 rebounds.

Coon Rapids Bayard heads back into Rolling Valley Conference action on Tuesday when they host Boyer Valley.

The Rockets hosted the ranked and undefeated Panthers to open the second part of the season and fell to 1-7 overall. Ar-We-Va battled hard in the 1st quarter and trailed 17-9 heading into the 2nd quarter. They didn’t score in the 2nd or 3rd quarter while Storm Lake St Mary’s scored 27 points in the 2nd quarter to put the game away.

Delaney Schurke finished with a team high 7 points and 2 steals. Jamie Hausman pulled down 7 rebounds. Karime Sanchez and Amber Ragaller each had a pair of steals.

Ar-We-Va game at Paton Churdan on Tuesday has been postponed to January 20th. The Rockets will be back in action on Thursday when they host Audubon.
