The Carroll Police Department responded to three motor vehicle accidents over the weekend, including one that led to the arrest of a passenger. Officers were dispatched to the intersection of 1st and Maple Streets at approximately 11:02 a.m. on Friday. Their investigation determined a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by 54-year-old Julie Underhill, was traveling southbound on Maple and failed to yield at the posted stop sign. The SUV was struck on the passenger side by an eastbound 2015 GMC Terrain, operated by 18-year-old Haylee Nissen of Sac City. Functional damages were reported to both vehicles. At approximately 9:51 a.m. on Saturday, law enforcement responded to the intersection of U.S. Highway 71 and 18th Street in reference to a hit-and-run report. Their initial investigation found 23-year-old Katherine Hill of Carroll had crashed a 2012 Chrysler Town and Country minivan into a fence at 17th and Adams Streets. Witnesses report Hill had struck a traffic sign on 18th and drove through several yards after leaving the roadway multiple times. A passenger, identified as 29-year-old Dustin Hill of Carroll, fled on foot but was apprehended in the 200 block of W. 14th Street. He was arrested and charged with public intoxication and domestic abuse assault. Additional charges are pending. The final accident occurred at approximately 8:50 a.m. at the intersection of 12th and Clark Streets. Authorities say a 2018 Ford Escape, driven by 74-year-old Diane Bollinger of Carroll, was stopped on Clark facing northbound when it was struck by a turning 2007 Chevrolet Impala, driven by 58-year-old Susan Blanchard of Carroll. Authorities say slick road conditions contributed to the crash. Functional damages were reported to both vehicles.
