Audubon Man Charged For July Burglary At Manning Service Center Sentenced Monday

An Audubon man who broke into a Manning business last summer and stole tools and a motor vehicle was sentenced Monday in Carroll County District Court. Twenty-five-year-old Zeth Lee Petersen was originally charged with first-degree theft, a class C felony, and six class D felonies, including: second-degree theft and third-degree burglary for the July 23 break-in at the Manning Service Center. As part of an agreement reached with prosecutors, Petersen pled guilty to first-degree and two second-degree theft charges. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison and $1,025 in fines on the class C count and five years and $1,025 in fines on each class D count, with the terms to run concurrently. However, the fines and sentences were suspended, and Petersen was instead placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services for up to five years. The remaining theft and burglary charges were dismissed after sentencing. Petersen is scheduled to appear for a Feb. 7 hearing to determine victim restitution.
