Current District 9 Iowa Senator, Jason Schultz of Schleswig, has formally announced he will be running for reelection in his new district. Following the redistricting that was approved by the Iowa Legislature last year, District 6 now consists of Ida, Crawford, Shelby, Audubon and Carroll Counties and a small portion of northeastern Pottawattamie County. Schultz says, “I have had the privilege of representing this area in Des Moines, while passing some of the most important legislation for the state of Iowa. I am proud of the work we have done, like historic tax relief, collective bargaining reform and legislation protecting life starting at the sound of a heartbeat. Even with all those successes, much work remains to be done. I look forward to talking with the people of Senate District 6 about the issues facing Iowa and the best ways we can grow and make Iowa the best state in the country.” Schultz, who is a Republican, was first elected to the Iowa Senate in 2014 following a three-term stint in the Iowa House. He serves on the Judiciary, Labor and Business Relations, State Government and Ways and Means committees. The District 6 seat is currently held by Craig Williams of Manning. Williams previously stated he would not seek reelection at the end of this term due to the changes to district boundaries.
