Dan Martin, age 68 of Sac City, IA, passed away on Sunday, January 9, 2022, at Chandler Regional Medical Center in Chandler, AZ. Daniel Lee Martin was born on November 13, 1953, to parents Dick and Bonnie (Dyslin) Martin in Sac City, IA. He grew up in Nemaha, IA where he was baptized into the Methodist faith and later graduated from Crestland High School with the class of 1971. After graduation, Dan continued his education at Iowa State University.
On June 18, 1976, Dan was united in marriage to Mary Kay Wiseman at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early, IA. This union was blessed with three children: Amy, Emily, and Jay. They raised their family in the Sac City area where Dan was the plant manager at Noble Popcorn up until his retirement in 2018. After retirement, he and Kay started traveling in their RV in the fall of 2019.
Later in life, Dan was confirmed in the Catholic faith. Dan was a proud 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also very active in the Lions Club of Sac City. He was the recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award for his dedication and service to the Lions organization. In his free time, Dan loved to go on adventures during his traveling, spending time with his family, and biking. Dan loved a great flashlight and provided one every Christmas to his grandchildren. Dan was a helper and loved a great home improvement or electronic project that would take twice as long as expected and drive his wife crazy in the process.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 45 years Kay Martin of Sac City, IA; children: Amy (Eric) Groen of Ankeny, IA, Emily (Brent) Miller of Lake Wilson, MN, and Jay (Daphne) Martin of Buffalo, MN; grandchildren: Abe, Simon, Esther, and Ben Groen, Max, Malcolm, and Marta Miller, and Audra, Cal, and Edie Martin; brothers: Bruce Martin, and Jack (Marcia) Martin; sister Nancy (Dexter) Luchtel; In-laws: Pat Jester, Jan Wiseman, and Don Wiseman; many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents Dick and Bonnie; parents-in-law Vern and Colette Wiseman; nephews: Dustin Luchtel and Kyle Martin; siblings-in-law: Roy, Kathy, and Tom Wiseman, and Richard Jester.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sac City with Burial to be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Early. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm on Friday with a Rosary to be held at 7 pm at Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City.
