Sharon Ann Promes, age 80, of Carroll, IA passed away on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at Accura Healthcare Center in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian burial will be at 2:30 P.M. on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at St Lawrence Catholic Church – St. John Paul II Parish in Carroll with Fr. Patrick Behm as Celebrant. Music for the Mass will be by Kathy Halbur and Kathleen Macke. Casket bearers will be grandsons, Chad Promes, Sean Promes, Nick Heuton, Tyler Heuton, Nathan Promes, and Matt Promes. Eucharist minister will be Carey Promes. Gift-bearers will be granddaughters Kenzie Liechti, Chelsea Promes, and Lauren Promes. Lector’s will be Taylor Promes and Brittany Schultes. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.
Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll from 5 – 7 P.M. on Tuesday where there will be a Christian Wake Service held at 7 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 1:30 P.M. on Wednesday where visitation without greeting the family will continue until 2:15 P.M.

Sharon, daughter of Fritz and Zita (Kathol) Hochstein, was born on July 2, 1941 in Wynot, Nebraska. She attended grade school and high school in Wynot graduating in May 1959. On May 21, 1960 she was married to Ervin “Erv” Promes at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wynot. They moved to Carroll in July of 1960. Sharon and Erv had 6 children. Sharon worked at the Carroll Country Club for two years, then worked at G.E. for 25 years, retiring in November of 1996. Sharon enjoyed watching her grandchildren while they were all young. She enjoyed doing crafts, sewing, embroidering, taking care of her plants, and messing around on her iPad.
Sharon is survived by her six children: son Craig Promes (fiancée Lori Ahart) of Denison, son Chris Promes (Christy) of Denison, son Carey Promes (Maria) of Carroll, son Curt Promes of Carroll, daughter Charlotte Johnson (Mike) of Austin, TX, and daughter Cindy Heuton (Ryan) of Carroll; sixteen grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren; a brother James Hochstein (Marilyn) of Des Plaines, IL; sister-in-law Arlyce Hochstein of Wynot, NE. and in-laws Alice Beyeler of Jefferson City, MO, and Carol Promes of Carroll.
She was preceded in death by her parents Fritz and Zita Hochstein; her father and mother-in-law Joe and Ida Promes, brothers Larry and Randy Hochstein , her sister Donna Criner (Jack), a daughter-in-law Julie Promes; and her husband Erv in 2013.
