Shirley Hachmeister of Coon Rapids

Shirley Mae Hachmeister, age 91, of Coon Rapids, IA, passed away on Monday, January 17, 2022 at Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids.

     Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at Trinity Lutheran Church northeast of Coon Rapids, Pastor Alan Miller officiating. Casket bearers will be her grandsons: Jason Hachmeister, Jake Hachmeister, Josh Hachmeister, Zach Hachmeister, Adam Hachmeister, Lucas Hachmeister, Trevor Hachmeister, and Andrew Hachmeister. Honorary casket bearers will be her granddaughters: Emily Hachmeister, Ricole Doty, Ashlyn Turner, and Camila Hachmeister. Burial will be in the Willow Township Cemetery northeast of Coon Rapids.

     Visitation will be held from 9:45 A.M. – 10:45 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church on Wednesday, January 26, 2022.

     Shirley, the daughter of Jake and Ruth (Rafferty) Bell, was born February 15, 1930 at St. Anthony’s Reginal Hospital in Carroll, Iowa. She attended Coon Rapids Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1948. She then attended Drake University in Des Moines, IA, for a short time before returning to Coon Rapids.

     On January 20, 1949, she was united in marriage to Gerald Hachmeister at the Trinity Lutheran Church. They were blessed with six sons: Greg, Randy, Jeff, Mark, David, and John. They made their home north of Coon Rapids and Shirley was a homemaker raising their children. Gerald passed away on November 8, 2014.

     Shirley was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was very active in the ladies aide. She was a member of the TTT’s and the Community Bridge Club for several years. She worked at congregate meals for several years. She was very gifted with singing and sang at numerous weddings and funerals over the years. Shirley was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting making all her grandchildren, baby blankets and Christmas stockings. She always had a large vegetable and flower garden and enjoyed canning the produce and was well known for her strawberry jam. She had a need for speed and could often catch her going way to fast down the road!

     Shirley is survived by her five sons: Greg (Janet) Hachmeister of Coon Rapids, Randy (Janet) Hachmeister of Burlington, IA, Jeff (Laura) Hachmeister, Mark (Linda) Hachmeister, and John Hachmeister and fiancé Dee Frampton all of Coon Rapids; 12 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

     She is preceded in death by her husband Gerald Hachmeister; son David Hachmeister, parents; and sister Virginia “Jiddi” (Ron) Mingus.
