Greene County Sheriff’s Office responded to two vehicle accidents over the weekend. The first occurred at 9:57 a.m. on Friday at the intersection of Madison and Vine Streets. A 2012 Chevrolet Malibu, owned by Brain Mobley and operated by Blake Halligan of Jefferson, was stopped at the posted stop sign. A 2001 Mercedes MLS, owned by Christina King and operated by Gabriel Fincel, was stopped at the same time as Halligan. Both vehicles left their stop signs at the same time and collided in the intersection. Damage to the Malibu was estimated $3,500, and $2,500 to the Cadillac. Fincel was cited for fail to yield to vehicle on right. The second accident occurred at 12:48 p.m. on Saturday in the 100 block of East Lincoln Way. Authorities say when a 2020 Nissan Rogue, driven by Julie Neal of Jefferson, struck a parked 2014 Ford F150, owned by Mark Lappegard of Cooper. After hitting the F150, Neal’s vehicle crossed the sidewalk and struck a metal stair handrail and an electrical box before coming to rest. Neal told law enforcement told law enforcement her accelerator had gotten stuck open just prior to the incident. Damage to the Nissan is estimated at $10,000 while the truck sustained $1,000 in damages. The estimated damage to the courthouse handrail and electric box was $2,000.
