South Central Calhoun (SCC) Community School District is changing their COVID-19 guidelines. Earlier this week, school officials sought guidance from Calhoun County Public Health about what is recommended and realistic to continue educating students as cases in the region increase. With quarantine recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shortened to five days from 10, the district has decided to alter its COVID protocols. Students who have been exposed and are not experiencing symptoms are asked to monitor themselves accordingly. The school will have no restrictions in place, meaning students and teachers are still allowed to attend class or work unless symptoms appear. Individuals with a confirmed COVID exposure or are showing symptoms are encouraged to be tested, either professionally or with an at-home kit. If a student or staff member tests negative, they can return to their everyday activates 24 hours after testing. If someone test positive, they must stay home for the next five days but can return after being symptom free for 24 hours following the initial five-day period. Returning individuals are asked to wear a mask for five days once back at school.
