Carroll Public Library staff are excited to announce they are ready to begin offering 3D printing services to patrons starting this week. They had originally planned to offer this service when the new library opened in 2020, but the challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic pushed the project back. Director, Rachel Van Erdewyk, says 3D printing can be daunting for newcomers to the practice, but their staff is ready to help patrons of all ages bring their designs to life.
Van Erdewyk says getting started is as easy as logging on to the library’s website and sending in your files. Projects need to fit within the printer’s 573 cubic inch work area and must comply with the library’s 3D printer policy.
Once staff has determined a project meets the criteria, they will work with patrons to determine a completion date. Van Erdewyk says they are thrilled to bring this new service to their patrons, as it encourages users to test the limits of their imagination.
The 3D printer is so precise, St. Anthony Regional Hospital recently requested the library print them human tracheas that will be used during staff training.
